David Alaba is mourning Peter Hermann, his former assistant coach at FC Bayern Munich. The long-time assistant to Jupp Heynckes passed away at the age of 74 due to complications from his ALS disease.
The 34-year-old Viennese bid farewell to his former companion on Instagram with emotional words: "A magnificent coach and an outstanding person! Rest in peace, Peter!"
For decades, the German was one of the most renowned assistant coaches in German football. Among others, he worked with Erich Ribbeck, Christoph Daum, and Niko Kovac.
"Indispensable Part of the Coaching Staff"
Hermann had his most successful period alongside Jupp Heynckes at FC Bayern Munich: Together with David Alaba, he won the club's first-ever treble in 2013. In the condolence letter from the Munich club, Hermann was honored as an "indispensable part of the coaching staff" during the treble victory.
Heynckes also expressed deep sorrow over the death of his long-time companion. "My wife Iris and I sat at the table and couldn't hold back our tears. Human vocabulary does not offer the right words for such situations to express how much this loss has affected us," the former Bayern coach is quoted by "kicker" as saying.
