DFB-Pokal: Gregoritsch assist in narrow Augsburg win
The Bundesliga club had some problems with the second-division promoted team. ÖFB striker Michael Gregoritsch set up the decisive goal.
The favourite prevails! Even if it was very close in the end.
Second-division promoted side Energie Cottbus had to concede a 0-2 defeat to Bundesliga club FC Augsburg in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
In a hard-fought match, the hosts were actually the better team, but FCA proved to be clinical after the break.
Gregoritsch assists
The visitors took the lead with the first chance of the second half. Following an attack down the left flank, ÖFB striker Michael Gregoritsch passed the ball into the box to Anton Kade. The striker then shot low into the left corner (49.).
Subsequently, Cottbus remained the more assertive team and pushed for the equaliser. Lucas Copado failed to convert from a promising position against Finn Dahmen (70.).
However, in the end, the favourite perfectly exploited a counter-attack and extended their lead to 2-0 through Kristijan Jakic (90.+5). For Cottbus, the DFB-Pokal adventure thus ended in round one, while Augsburg avoided a false start.
Leverkusen without problems
The afternoon was much clearer for Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga club clearly prevailed 4-0 against third-division side Wehen Wiesbaden.
The goals were scored by Patrick Schick (43.), Lucas Vazquez (47.), Nathan Tella (69.) and Christian Kofane (79.).
