Wimmer celebrates dream debut with Hoffenheim in DFB-Pokal
The Austrian contributes two goals and an assist. Pichler also scores a brace in Hannover's dominant win.
Austrian international Patrick Wimmer delivers a strong performance in TSG Hoffenheim's 4-0 victory against FC Erzgebirge Aue in the 1st round of the DFB-Pokal.
On his debut, the 25-year-old gives his new club the lead after just six minutes. Following a combination play by his teammates, the ball finds him. He strikes directly on the turn and finds the far corner.
Just eleven minutes later, he is central to the action again. Wimmer sends Burger through, who scores into the near corner, making it 2-0 (17').
Wimmer scores a brace
Even if the fourth-tier side doesn't shy away and tries to keep up, Hoffenheim continues to dictate play. In stoppage time (45.+1), the Austrian adds his second goal. Hoffenheim takes a 3-0 lead into the break.
After 61 minutes, former Salzburg player Daghim is also brought on to provide impetus. His team celebrates the next goal shortly thereafter. After winning possession, Conte lays it off to Moerstedt in the box, who makes it 4-0.
Wimmer's productive outing concludes after 77 minutes. His team doesn't score any more goals either. Thus, Hoffenheim advances to the next round after the 4-0 victory.
Pichler scores a brace in Hannover's victory
The afternoon is also successful for Austrian international Benjamin Pichler. In Hannover's 8-0 victory against Hemelingen, he contributes two goals.
After goals from Thordarson (5'/19'), Gindorf (11') and Hartel (16'), Pichler, unopposed, puts the ball into the net in the 21st minute to make it 5-0. Gindorf adds his second goal before the break to make it 6-0 (39'). The fifth-tier side finds no way to stop their opponents.
The favorites continue to set the pace in the second half. After 53 minutes, the brace-scorer nets to make it 7-0. However, the hosts still manage to score a consolation goal. Fikaj scores with a header to make it 1-7.
Hannover increases the tempo again towards the end of the match. Pichler makes it 8-1 with a fine move (88'). Eticibas seals the 9-1 score (90.+1).
