Muslic: "... then you have no chance in the Bundesliga"
Schalke concedes a home goal in the Bundesliga for the first time since promotion. Miron Muslic explains why his team struggled in the first hour.
In the third Bundesliga match, the first goal was finally scored at the Veltins Arena.
However, FC Schalke 04 still failed to score their first home goal. Instead, Philipp Tietz became the match-winner with his goal in the 24th minute.
Muslic's Schalke loses to Mainz 05
Schalke were actually lucky not to have fallen behind earlier. "Mainz had two huge chances after just 60 seconds," head coach Miron Muslic admitted to the "DAZN" microphone after the match.
"It's quite normal in football for the team to lose a bit of confidence because of that," he added, showing understanding for his team.
The Foundation Was Missing
What he didn't like so much, however: "We need to regain our composure; we took 60 minutes to do that today." The Austrian coach was referring primarily to direct duels and challenges. "That's the foundation. If you don't engage in the challenges for 60 minutes, then you have no chance in the Bundesliga."
After the hour mark, his team "finally woke up," Muslic explained, "but before that, it should have been 3-0 for Mainz."
The coach explained why Schalke needed around 60 minutes for this: "That's the adaptation, the lack of experience – we still need to acquire that." Next Saturday in Köln, they will have the next opportunity to do so.
