RB Leipzig offloads defender to Wanner's club
The Dutchman was on loan to the Premier League last season. Now he's returning home.
Departure at RB Leipzig!
The German Bundesliga club announced on Friday that defender Lutsharel Geertruida will leave the club on loan for PSV Eindhoven.
The Eredivisie club also has a purchase option. According to "Sky," this is said to be around 15 million Euros. In Eindhoven, he will now meet Austrian national team player Paul Wanner.
Recently in England
The 21-cap Netherlands international moved from Feyenoord Rotterdam to Leipzig in the summer of 2024 for 20 million Euros. However, he never truly settled in at the club of Austrian internationals Nicolas Seiwald and Christoph Baumgartner. He only made a total of 35 appearances.
Last year, the right-back was loaned to Sunderland in the Premier League. The 26-year-old made 30 appearances there.
Squad not yet complete
However, the "Red Bulls'" squad planning is far from complete. Sporting director Marcel Schäfer still has a lot to do before deadline day.
According to consistent media reports, the squad is expected to be trimmed on one hand and strengthened with quality players on the other.
Possible departure candidates include long-serving player Lukas Klostermann and the recently loaned-out Arthur Vermeeren and Eljif Elmas.
Regarding arrivals, the search continues for a replacement for record departure Yan Diomande. However, the two targeted candidates Said El Mala (extension in Cologne) and Diego Moreira (move to Milan) have fallen through.
Nkunku Return?
According to consistent media reports, a return for Christopher Nkunku is being discussed in Leipzig. The attacking player is out of favor at AC Milan and is allowed to leave the club.
The 28-year-old Frenchman played for RB from 2019 to 2023, scoring 70 goals in 172 games, before moving to Chelsea for 60 million Euros.
