Christian Ilzer criticizes ref: "That is indisputable!"

It was a bitter result for Christian Ilzer and TSG Hoffenheim. The Styrian coach lost 2:3 to BVB after a 2:0 lead (Match Report >>>) and thus remains without points after two matchdays in the German Bundesliga.

In the 61st minute, BVB scored the goal to make it 2-1 through a controversial strike by Serhou Guirassy, which initiated the comeback.

Wimmer was fouled

In the build-up, ÖFB star Patrick Wimmer was allegedly fouled. "Before the 2:1, it was a very clear foul by Svensson on Wimmer. He stepped on his Achilles tendon, that is indisputable," Ilzer is quoted by "kicker".

However, after reviewing the images, the referee team still did not disallow the goal. The foul occurred far away from the play.

Referees accused of lacking football understanding

According to Ilzer, the scene was explained to him with the words "He was not involved in the play." The TSG coach cannot quite understand this. "That is a lack of football understanding," he slams the officials.

The coach wants to educate the referees and explains: "Leon Avdullahu looks into the opponent's half, sees Wimmer is fouled, he loses the option, he turns around, then the ball is taken from him. Only because of this foul does he turn away, an offensive option was taken from him."

Nevertheless, Ilzer also knows that referee criticism does not help his team and remains self-critical: "We were leading 2:0 and should have scored the third goal. And continued to defend consistently. And not let up. Even on the second conceded goal, we weren't as consistently on Guirassy."
