Bitter Defeat for Hütter! Augsburg Storms to Top of the Table

Adi Hütter has to accept another setback in his second game since his Bundesliga comeback with Eintracht Frankfurt.

After a 3-3 draw on the opening day of the season against Union Berlin, Eintracht lost at home on the second matchday against FC Augsburg with a score of 1-4. The Augsburgers, on the other hand, celebrated their second win in their second game and sensationally took the league lead with six points.

Eintracht Initially Clearly Dominant

Initially, everything pointed towards a comfortable home victory for Frankfurt. Eintracht dominated the first half at will and took the lead as early as the sixth minute.

Younes Ebnoutalib, who also impressed on the opening day, delivered a perfect cross to Jonathan Burkardt, who headed in for 1-0.

Frankfurt remained clearly dominant afterwards and had several chances to extend their lead. However, Augsburg keeper Finn Dahmen kept his team in the game with several strong saves. Little was seen from the visitors in the first 45 minutes.

Quickfire Double After the Break

Immediately after the half-time break, the completely unexpected turnaround came.

Barely 20 seconds were played when Marius Wolf delivered a cross into the middle. Arijon Ibrahimovic rose high and headed the ball, but Eintracht defender Elias Baum unluckily deflected it into the far corner – 1-1 (46th minute).

And Frankfurt seemed paralysed afterwards. Practically immediately after the restart, Augsburg attacked again. Ibrahimovic attempted a rather harmless shot, but Eintracht keeper Atubolu parried the ball. Robin Fellhauer followed up and tapped in to give Augsburg the lead (47th minute).

Michael Gregoritsch had a chance for 3-1 shortly after. However, the Austrian striker failed to convert a strong shot against Atubolu in the 58th minute, who this time made a spectacular save.

Claude-Maurice Seals It

In the 65th minute, the decisive goal finally came. Alexis Claude-Maurice, who had just been substituted in, found too much space outside the Frankfurt penalty area and was not consistently challenged. The Frenchman exploited this clinically and curled the ball precisely into the far corner – 3-1 for Augsburg.

Gregoritsch's shift ended in the 72nd minute. Even without the Austrian striker, Augsburg comfortably held on to their lead. Fabian Rieder even scored the 4-1 in the final phase with a direct free-kick (89th minute).

As a result, Eintracht remains with only one point after two matchdays and slips down to 13th place.

Augsburg, on the other hand, has had a perfect start to the season. After the 3-0 win against Schalke, a 3-1 away victory against Frankfurt now follows – and with that, FCA sits at the top of the table with six points.
