After ÖFB Training Camp: Could Alex Schlager Feature for Werder?
The chances for the ÖFB national team goalkeeper to make his debut in the German Bundesliga are increasing.
This season, Alexander Schlager has spent twice as much time on the pitch for the ÖFB team as for his club Werder Bremen.
Under Ralf Rangnick, the 30-year-old was deployed twice in the Nations League. At Werder, it was just 90 minutes in the DFB-Pokal – and even that only happened because first-choice goalkeeper Karl Hein was nursing an injury.
Departed from National Team
Now, the Estonian goalkeeper is injured again. Due to minor adductor problems, he even had to leave the national team early. On Sunday, he returned to the Weser so that further examinations could be carried out.
Should Hein not recover in time, Schlager would move into the starting XI as a replacement goalkeeper.
Werder Bremen will face Borussia Dortmund away this coming Friday (8:30 PM). For the former "Bulle", it would be his first appearance in the German Bundesliga.
