Martin Demichelis' start at RB Leipzig this summer was anything but easy!

Expectations were high after the surprising separation from Ole Werner and RB's ambitious goals. Demichelis was under close scrutiny from the start, with nothing less than a return to spectacular Red Bull football being the requirement.

Major Differences

After the first 13 games as head coach of the "Red Bulls", many ups and downs can be observed. At home, the team around the two ÖFB legionnaires Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald is still flawless after five games (18:0 goals).

Away from home, however, they suffered heavy defeats against Bayern Munich (1:6), Real Madrid (1:4), Como (1:4), Leverkusen (0:2), and Bremen (1:3). At least on Saturday, they now achieved their first away league win at Schalke (to the match report >>>).

In the cup, they also won twice away against lower-division teams.

Rumor Mill Buzzing

These major performance fluctuations have already led to speculation in recent weeks about an early Demichelis exit in Leipzig. The name Julian Nagelsmann repeatedly floated through the German press.

However, both sporting director Marcel Schäfer and new Global Head Roger Schmidt publicly backed the 45-year-old Argentinian.

Clear Words from Demichelis

After the win at Schalke, Demichelis himself spoke about his future and made a blunt statement to "Bild": "I know I have to achieve goals with RB Leipzig, that's why I'm here. And if we don't achieve those goals at the end of the season, then I will leave myself. That's how it is. The people who know me know that very well."

The third consecutive competitive win, however, gives the coach new momentum. On Wednesday, the difficult home match against Manchester City will take place in the UEFA Champions League.
