Kane laments draw against Dortmund: "We were really sloppy"
Despite clear superiority, Bayern fail to get more than a draw against Dortmund. In addition to the squandered points, three injuries cause concern.
FC Bayern Munich had to settle for a 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga classic against Borussia Dortmund (to the match report >>>).
The Munich side were clearly the better team for long stretches but left too many chances unused.
4.83 Expected Goals contrasted with only 0.7 for BVB in the end. The frustration over the squandered two points is correspondingly great.
Kane: "We were really sloppy"
"Of course, I didn't feel like we did enough today to win the game," Harry Kane explained after the final whistle.
The technical errors, in particular, infuriated the Ballon d'Or winner: "We were really sloppy in possession of the ball."
Kane also critically scrutinizes his own performance. In addition to the missed penalty, he squandered further opportunities, hitting the woodwork twice.
"The ball just didn't want to go in today. That's life as a striker. You just have to accept that," said the Englishman.
Three further injury concerns
Bayern assistant coach Aaron Danks, currently filling in for Vincent Kompany, was also disappointed with the result but saw a good performance from his team.
"We played well and created many chances. We are disappointed that we couldn't win today," the Englishman summarized.
Even more concerning for FCB, however, is the look at the injury list. In addition to the already injured Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala, and Luis Diaz, three more absences are now threatening.
Ismael Saibari is likely to have injured his ankle, while Serge Gnabry is suspected of a muscle injury. There is also no all-clear yet for Michael Olise after his late substitution.
"We will now check with the doctors and physios to see how things develop," Danks explained. Kane also hopes for an all-clear: "It was a tough evening, also because of the injuries we suffered. Hopefully, they are not too serious."
Bayern look ahead
Despite the disappointing draw, the Munich side remain at the top of the table with 18 points and a better goal difference.
There isn't much time to dwell on it anyway. The next important match against Atletico awaits in Madrid as early as Tuesday.
"We have to put this behind us quickly, because the next important match is already coming up in a few days," Kane looked ahead.
