BVB's Transfer Offensive: Wanner's Teammate Incoming
According to consistent media reports, Borussia Dortmund is set to sign a PSV star. This could further increase competition in midfield for Marcel Sabitzer.
Borussia Dortmund continues to diligently build its squad for the new season. After the multi-million euro transfer of Konstantinos Karetsas, BVB is now reportedly on the verge of its next high-profile signing.
As several media outlets consistently report, Dutch international Joey Veerman is said to be on the verge of a move to the German Bundesliga club.
According to transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, an agreement has already been reached. Dortmund is reportedly activating the 27-year-old's release clause, with the transfer fee expected to be between 22 and 25 million euros.
Competition for Sabitzer
For Borussia Dortmund, the transfer is particularly interesting with a view to the central midfield. Veerman can be deployed in the number six position and would thus enter into direct competition with Austrian national team player Marcel Sabitzer.
The 32-year-old was recently frequently deployed in defensive midfield under BVB coach Niko Kovac. With Veerman, another technically skilled and internationally experienced midfielder would now join the squad.
Dortmund also has another Austrian international, Carney Chukwuemeka, in midfield. For him too, the fight for playing time might not get any easier.
Nearly 200 Games for PSV
Veerman has been under contract with PSV Eindhoven since January 2022 and has developed into a key player there. For the Dutch top club, he made a total of 198 competitive appearances, scoring 31 goals and providing 67 assists.
His trophy collection is also impressive: With PSV, Veerman has won the Dutch championship in each of the last three seasons. Additionally, he has won two cup titles and three Johan Cruyff Shields (Supercup).
Last season, the 16-time Dutch international mostly played alongside Austrian international Paul Wanner in a double pivot.
BVB Continues to Dig Deep into Its Pockets
Veerman would be the next costly new signing in a Dortmund transfer period where Borussia has already invested heavily.
For the Greek top talent Konstantinos Karetsas, who arrived from KRC Genk, BVB is said to have paid around 30 million euros plus potential bonus payments. The 18-year-old signed a contract until 2031.
However, Dortmund's transfer offensive is reportedly not yet over. According to consistent reports, BVB is also on the verge of signing Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK Saloniki.
