Borussia Mönchengladbach remains deep in crisis.

On the debut of new coach Alexander Blessin, the "Foals" had to concede a 1-2 defeat to 1. FC Köln in the derby on the fifth Bundesliga matchday.

Cologne took the lead in the 26th minute. After a free-kick, the ball bounced back to Isak Johannesson, who struck a volley from a good 18 meters, beautifully sinking the ball into the top corner.

However, Gladbach managed to respond in the first half. In the 39th minute, American Joe Scally headed in the equalizer.

El Mala seals the win

After a balanced first half, Cologne took a bit more control in the second half. They missed good opportunities twice.

However, with their third major chance, they finally took the lead. Said El Mala fired from outside the box in the 66th minute, scoring spectacularly into the right corner.

In the end, Gladbach threw everything forward again, but the equalizer eluded them.

Thus, in their fifth game of the season, they suffered their fifth defeat. This leaves Gladbach, for whom Kevin Stöger was not in the squad, still in last place. Cologne climbs to tenth place with seven points.
