Elversberg with sensational Bundesliga debut against Leverkusen

SV Elversberg has arrived in the German Bundesliga - and how!

The club from the 13,000-soul village celebrates a sensational 3-2 victory against Bayer Leverkusen in their debut in Germany's top flight.

Elversberg, with Austrian keeper Nicolas Kristof in goal, get off to a perfect start on the first matchday: Lukas Petkov scores Elversberg's first Bundesliga goal in the eighth minute, before Cole Campbell even doubles the lead to 2-0 just one minute later (9').

Even after that, it's the Saarlanders who dominate the game. The next goal, scored by David Mokwa (46'), comes right after the restart of the second half.

Elversberg is then able to keep the "Werkself" away from their goal, but in the 77th minute, Kristof finally has to concede: Patrik Schick scores to make it 1-3 after a corner.

Leverkusen makes it exciting again, reducing the deficit to 2-3 through Christian Kofane in the first minute of stoppage time, but the defeat no longer changes.

Gladbach suffers clear opening defeat against Leipzig

Borussia Mönchengladbach gets off to a similarly weak start to the season as Bayer Leverkusen. On the first matchday, they lose 0-3 against RB Leipzig.

Ridle Baku (25'), Antonio Nusa (49') and former Gladbach player Rocco Reitz (66') score for the "Red Bulls", for whom Nicolas Seiwald plays the full match in central midfield and where coach Martin Demicheles celebrates a perfect Bundesliga debut.

Kevin Stöger is substituted for Gladbach in the 64th minute, while the convalescent Christoph Baumgartner is missing from the Leipzig squad.

Without Posch: Mainz only draws against Paderborn

The second promoted team, SC Paderborn, can also be happy about gaining a point on the first matchday. They secure a 0-0 draw away at 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Phillipp Mwene plays the full match for Mainz and receives a yellow card in stoppage time. Stefan Posch, however, only sits on the bench.
