Former Sturm professional becomes new St. Pauli captain
The 25-year-old takes on the leadership role for the Hamburg club after Jackson Irvine's departure.
David Nemeth is taking over the captain's armband at FC St. Pauli!
The Austrian defender is set to become captain of the traditional club this season. Nemeth has been with the Hamburg-based team since the 2022/23 season.
The 25-year-old succeeds Jackson Irvine, who left the club for Japan after St. Pauli's relegation to the 2. Liga. The Australian was captain at St. Pauli for three years and a fan favorite.
Born in Burgenland
Nemeth, a native of Burgenland, played for Mattersburg until 2020. In the 2020/21 season, after his move to Mainz, he was loaned to Sturm Graz.
Last season, Nemeth was sidelined for a long time with a groin injury. He did not make a single appearance for St. Pauli in the Bundesliga.
Now, the Austrian aims to achieve direct re-promotion to the German Bundesliga with the Hamburg club.
