RC Lens are French Supercup winners 2026!

The reigning cup winners cause a major upset at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, defeating perennial champions Paris Saint-Germain 1-0. For new coach Dino Toppmöller, it's a perfect start: In his first competitive match with his new club, the German immediately secures his first title.

For the hosts, Austrian international Samson Baidoo is absent from the squad due to injury.

Underdog takes the lead

As expected, PSG take control from the start. The reigning champions and two-time Champions League winners dominate, but Lens strike clinically with their first real opportunity. Florian Thauvin surprisingly puts the hosts 1-0 up in the 32nd minute.

Just seven minutes later, the task becomes even tougher for Lens. The 18-year-old Kyllian Antonio, who replaced the injured Baidoo, treads on Maghnes Akliouche's foot with an open sole. Referee Jérémie Pingard doesn't hesitate and immediately shows the red card (39.).

PSG push for an equalizer before halftime. Désiré Doué misses the best chance, his shot from a tight angle in first-half stoppage time only hitting the post (45.+3).

Risser secures the title

Even after the restart, attack after attack rained down on the Lens goal. But Robin Risser rises to the occasion and becomes the match-winner.

In the 62nd minute, Nuno Mendes is denied from close range by the superbly reacting goalkeeper. Eleven minutes later, Risser again makes a brilliant save against Ousmane Dembélé (73.).

In the 77th minute, PSG finally thought they had found the equalizer. Fabian Ruiz tapped in after Doué's assist, but the goal was disallowed due to the assist-provider being offside.

In the closing stages, the Parisians threw everything forward and, through Dembélé, squandered a huge chance to equalize (81.). The Ballon D'Or winner, however, blasted the ball over the crossbar from seven meters out.

In the final minutes, PSG star Mendes lost his temper. After an elbow on Michal Skoras, the left-back was also deservedly sent off.

First Supercup defeat since 2021

Thus, Lens saw out the narrow lead, even with a numerical disadvantage, and secured their first title of the season.

For Dino Toppmöller, the triumph is a dream start with his new employer. The former Frankfurt coach succeeded Pierre Sage in the summer, who moved to Crystal Palace.

PSG, however, have to accept a rare setback. After four consecutive Supercup triumphs, Luis Enrique's team suffers a defeat in the French season opener for the first time since 2021.
