Röhl demands more after 3-0 win: "We have to improve"

FC Red Bull Salzburg ultimately secured a dominant victory against WSG Tirol on the third matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga (for the match report >>>).

Goals from Karim Konate (15') and Frans Krätzig (17') saw the "Bulls" take an early 2-0 lead. Sota Kitano sealed the win in the second half (70'). However, Salzburg coach Danny Röhl was not entirely satisfied with his team's performance.

"It could have been 6-3 at halftime"

Röhl was particularly annoyed by the phase after the early double strike. While Salzburg "started well" and were "clinical in front of goal", they conceded too much afterwards.

"After the 2-0 lead, we had a phase where we allowed the opponent to get back into the game too much. It could have been 6-3 at halftime; it was a bit too open for my liking," explained the 37-year-old on the "Sky" microphone.

Indeed, despite the clear deficit, WSG had several good opportunities. Lukas Hinterseer hit the post, Olakigbe was denied by Salzburg keeper Zawieschitzky, and shortly before halftime, a penalty from the WSG captain was also saved by the young custodian.

After the break, however, Salzburg appeared much more controlled.

"In the second half, we played it out very confidently," Röhl stated. Nevertheless, the coach still sees room for improvement even in this phase. "A fourth or fifth goal was still possible. But especially in the last 15 minutes with a 3-0 lead, we still need to develop further."

Röhl sees the problem with Salzburg themselves

Röhl by no means attributes the Tyroleans getting back into the game better after the 0-2 deficit to the opponent.

"It's not about the opponent; it's about us," the Salzburg coach clarified. Too many simple turnovers and the associated loss of their own structure were the cause.

"We then want to go for a third or fourth goal. But first, you have to play the opponent and bring calmness into the game. But we will learn and improve that," Röhl is convinced.

Overall, his interim conclusion after three Bundesliga rounds is still positive. After last week's draw, it was important to secure three points again. Internationally, Salzburg has also "done its homework" so far.

"But in terms of overall performance, we still need to develop further. That will come; I am convinced of that," said Röhl. "It looks quite decent right now. But we are not yet at the point we want to be."

Krätzig: "We have to convert our chances"

Goalscorer Frans Krätzig also sees an area where Salzburg still needs to work, despite the clear success: chance conversion.

"We have to convert our chances; that was also an issue for us in recent matches, where we had a high xG," says the 23-year-old. At the same time, it is important to finish games cleanly after taking a lead.

Overall, however, Krätzig identifies a positive development among the Bulls. "We are getting the results on our side. We don't give up after falling behind. We always come back. That's a spirit that somehow emerges."

The German also does not view his personal "duel" with new signing Dominik Schmid as a classic competitive battle. "'Duel' is tough. 'Teamwork' describes it better. We are currently on a very good path, rotating well, and that's exactly how it should be."

"Definitely" ready for the Europa League

Salzburg doesn't have much time for analysis anyway. On Thursday, Swedish champions Mjällby await in the Europa League playoff. After advancing against Pafos, the team now faces the final hurdle on their way to the Europa League.

Is his team already ready for it?

Röhl's answer was unambiguous: "Yes, definitely. But for that, we have to overcome the next opponent."

The first leg will take place on Thursday in Sweden, before the return leg follows a week later in Salzburg.
