Confirmed! Xaver Schlager moves to the Premier League
After four years at RB Leipzig, the midfielder continues his career on the island.
It's now confirmed: ÖFB international Xaver Schlager is moving to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. His contract at RB Leipzig had expired in the summer.
The 28-year-old midfielder signs with the "Tricky Trees" for two years until 2028 and is the first new signing under new Nottingham coach Oliver Glasner. Schlager and Glasner had previously worked together at VfL Wolfsburg.
"It is a great honour for me to join Nottingham Forest. The club has a long tradition and a great history. I was looking for a new challenge and wanted to join a club with good players. I am very much looking forward to working with Oliver again," Schlager said regarding his move.
Schlager wants to play in European competition with Nottingham
The club has great ambitions, according to the 55-time ÖFB international. "And so do I. I want to get back into European competition, and we have a good chance. It's a great feeling to play internationally during the week, and I want to achieve that."
Schlager had moved from FC Red Bull Salzburg to Wolfsburg in 2019 and then joined RB Leipzig in 2022. For the Red Bulls, he made 15 appearances in the UEFA Champions League. Last season, he featured a total of 30 times for Leipzig. At the World Cup, he was in the starting XI for all four ÖFB matches.
