Contract Terminated! ÖFB Defender Available for Free
The 28-year-old could move to a newly promoted club in the German Bundesliga.
Maximilian Wöber is no longer a Leeds United player.
The 28-year-old centre-back's contract with the Premier League club has been terminated. The club confirmed this on Wednesday evening.
Wöber made 28 appearances for Leeds since winter 2023, scoring once. Following loan spells at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Werder Bremen, the ÖFB centre-back could once again move to Germany.
According to media reports, newly promoted Schalke 04, with coach Miron Muslic, are reportedly close to signing Wöber - now on a free transfer. S04 is currently in a training camp in Tyrol, where Wöber is expected to undergo his medical.
Wöber has struggled with numerous injury problems in recent years, which is why his contract at Schalke is reportedly heavily performance-based.
