Brazil's World Cup Scapegoat Moves for €87.5 Million Fee
Arsenal splashes out to strengthen its midfield with Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
Arsenal has reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United on a transfer fee for Bruno Guimaraes.
According to "The Athletic," the "Gunners" are prepared to transfer €87.5 million to Newcastle.
Guimaraes played for Newcastle United for the past four and a half years. In 2022, the 28-year-old Brazilian was still the "Magpies'" record transfer with a fee of €50.1 million. He now ranks sixth among the club's most expensive new signings.
Only One "Gunner" Was More Expensive
At Arsenal, the 28-year-old defensive midfielder becomes the second most expensive new signing in the club's history. Only Declan Rice was more expensive when he moved in 2023 (€116.6 million).
Guimaraes has had an eventful summer. At the World Cup in America, the midfielder was a key player for the Brazilian Selecao, providing four assists in five matches.
However, he also missed an ultimately decisive penalty in the first half during their Round of 16 exit against Norway. Brazil ultimately lost 1-2, and Guimaraes subsequently faced a lot of criticism back home.
