Done deal! Glasner signs for Nottingham Forest
Oliver Glasner remains in the Premier League, moving from the Conference League winner to a Europa League semi-finalist.
Oliver Glasner has found a new role following his departure from Crystal Palace.
The Upper Austrian takes over Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, signing a contract until 2029 with last year's UEFA Europa League semi-finalists.
According to reports, Glasner will be handsomely compensated, becoming one of the best-paid coaches in the Premier League. The English "Sun" reports his annual salary is expected to be 15 million euros.
Great Successes with Crystal Palace
The 51-year-old had already announced his departure from the "Eagles" in mid-January, frequently criticising the club's transfer policy.
Nevertheless, Glasner led Crystal Palace to their first international title last season, triumphing with the "Eagles" in the UEFA Conference League.
Together, the FA Cup and the Community Shield were also won, and the greatest successes in the club's history were celebrated.
Pereira Sacked Two Minutes Before Clause Expiration
At the "Tricky Trees", the 51-year-old takes over as coach from Portuguese Vitor Pereira, who had only taken charge of Nottingham in mid-February and subsequently guided them comfortably to league survival.
Although his contract was still valid until 2027, the club parted ways with him, exercising a release clause that was valid until June 30.
According to media reports, Pereira received an email two minutes before the clause expired, informing him of his dismissal.
In his farewell statement, the Portuguese wrote that the decision came to him "completely by surprise and without warning." However, he respects the club's right to make the decisions it deems best for its future.
He was the fourth coach in the 2025/26 season after Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Sean Dyche.
Surprising Move
Glasner's move within the Premier League comes as a surprise.
The successful coach had long been considered a favourite for the coaching position at AC Milan, but after positive talks, the "Rossoneri" opted for Ruben Amorim, the former head coach of Manchester United.
Previously, Glasner was also linked with Bayer Leverkusen, and in the past, Manchester United was also named as an interested party.
Nottingham's Most Successful Era Long Past
Nottingham Forest has been back in the Premier League since 2023, having previously spent 23 years in the second-tier Championship. The club from the East Midlands experienced its best period in the 1970s and 80s.
In 1979 and 1980, Nottingham triumphed in the European Cup, celebrating their only top-flight league title to date in 1978. The English League Cup was won four times, and the FA Cup twice.
From the current squad, defender Murillo (market value: 50 million euros) and Morgan Gibbs-White (70 million euros) particularly stand out. Elliot Anderson, however, has left the "Tricky Trees" for Manchester City, bringing in around 135 million euros.
