Glasner after Palace defeat: "Call it karma"
The Austrian loses to his former club in London. Fans mock him.
Oliver Glasner probably hadn't imagined his return to Selhurst Park quite like this.
The former successful Crystal Palace coach and his new employer Nottingham Forest had to accept a 3-1 defeat against his former club on Sunday. Yet, the afternoon began quite pleasantly for the Austrian.
Before the match, the 52-year-old was greeted with warm applause by the Palace supporters. Glasner had led the London club to victory in the FA Cup and the Conference League, among other achievements.
But the mood shifted as the game progressed.
Fans mock Glasner
Nottingham initially got off to a dream start. Dan Ndoye gave the visitors the lead in just the third minute. Forest then failed to secure a decisive lead despite numerous clear-cut opportunities.
However, Crystal Palace turned the match in their favour with goals from Daichi Kamada, Jefferson Lerma, and Yeremy Pino.
As the game went on, the home fans also targeted their former successful coach. "Glasner, what's the score?" chanted the Palace supporters towards the Austrian. Chants of "You're getting sacked in the morning!" were also heard.
After the bitter defeat, Glasner showed self-criticism to "Sky Sports".
"Today it looks like I was solely responsible for it. Call it karma or whatever. It felt like I didn't deserve to win at Selhurst Park," explained the 52-year-old.
Glasner, however, did not want to blame his players. He stated that they showed both the necessary commitment and the required quality.
Despite the sobering result, the Austrian even described his team's performance as their best of the season.
Thanks to Palace fans
Glasner concluded with conciliatory words regarding the reception from his former supporters: "A huge thank you to the Palace fans and the Forest fans. It's not often you get support from both sides."
After the defeat, Nottingham Forest has five points from six Premier League games and sits in 14th place in the table.
