Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez makes intra-Premier League switch
The 2022 World Cup winner signs a three-year contract with Chelsea.
Emiliano Martinez leaves Aston Villa after six years and signs a three-year contract with Chelsea. The transfer fee is reportedly around 8.8 million euros.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be at this football club," Martinez said. "For me and my family, the move to Chelsea was an easy decision, and I'm overjoyed – I can't wait to get started."
Martinez could claim number one jersey at Chelsea
The 33-year-old had moved from Arsenal to Aston Villa in 2020, where he had been the first-choice goalkeeper in recent years. In 2022, Martinez won the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar, and this year he became a Europa League winner with the "Villans." A summer move to Juventus fell through in mid-August.
At Chelsea, Martinez could now take over the number one jersey from Spaniard Robert Sanchez.
