Glasner's Nottingham squanders win against Liverpool

After a narrow 0-1 defeat to Leeds at the start of the season, Oliver Glasner's Nottingham Forest secures a 2-2 draw against Liverpool on the second matchday of the Premier League.

Forest took the lead twice, but Andoni Iraola's side managed to fight back on both occasions. Austrian national team player Xaver Schlager played the full ninety minutes in his starting XI debut for Nottingham.

Wirtz Goal Disallowed

Glasner's team started the match with effort. After just eleven minutes, Ndoye appeared at the far post and set up Igor Jesus. Jacquet was able to prevent an early goal at the last moment.

Shortly after, the ball was in the net. Sels found Ndoye with a long ball, who made it 1-0 for Nottingham (24'). Liverpool looked to equalize, and Wirtz scored with a turn, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside position by assist-provider Frimpong (33').

A similar combination was repeated shortly after. Gakpo found the German again, and Sels made a spectacular save. But Nottingham also had another chance before the break. The Liverpool keeper had to intervene against Igor Jesus.

Liverpool Fights Back

At the start of the second half, Liverpool became even more active and were finally rewarded in the 60th minute. Gakpo broke through strongly on the right flank and delivered a sharp cross to the far post, where Isak was able to tap in easily.

However, Nottingham was not disheartened by the equalizer. After a throw-in, Williams was brought down in the penalty area by Alisson, prompting the referee to point to the spot. Gibbs-White stepped up and coolly converted into the bottom left corner (70').

But Liverpool refused to give up again. In the 82nd minute, Wirtz crossed to new signing Munoz, who controlled the ball brilliantly and blasted it into the net for the final score.

Nottingham provisionally climbs to twelfth place with their first point. Liverpool sits tenth after two draws to start the campaign.
