360 Million - Zero Goals: "Spurs" Stuck at Bottom of the Table
Despite astronomical transfer spending in the summer, Tottenham remain without scoring a goal in their fourth Premier League game.
Tottenham Hotspur are held to a goalless draw on the fourth matchday of the Premier League.
The "Spurs" drew 0-0 at home against still-unbeaten FC Everton and are still waiting for their first goal of the season after four league games.
After a 0-3 opening defeat at FC Brentford and a 0-2 home loss against Newcastle United, there was already a 0-0 against Oliver Glasner's Nottingham. Now, the hoped-for breakthrough also failed to materialise against Everton.
Spurs with a Bright Start
Tottenham started the match with considerable verve. Already in the fifth minute, Jan Paul van Hecke had a big chance to take the lead, but the Dutchman shot over the goal with a volley after a free-kick.
The Spurs, however, could not convert their good opening phase into anything tangible. As the game progressed, the fans in the stadium grew restless, and Everton increasingly found their way into the game.
Shortly before halftime, the visitors even had the best chance of the first half. James Garner tried with a direct free-kick, but Tottenham keeper Antonin Kinsky prevented them from falling behind with a strong save (45.+1).
Kinsky Keeps Tottenham in the Game
Even after the restart, Everton were initially closer to taking the lead. Thierno Barry got a header from close range after a cross, but failed again against Kinsky (50.).
Shortly after, Barry had another dangerous attempt (54.), and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also missed a good opportunity (65.).
Only in the final phase did Tottenham increase the pressure again. Lucas Bergvall had the chance for a late winner, but found his match in Jordan Pickford (89.).
So it remained 0-0, a result likely to help Everton much more than the Spurs.
Over 360 Million Invested – and Still 17th Place Again
For Tottenham, the start of the season has thus definitively failed. After finishing 17th last season, narrowly escaping relegation, the Londoners invested over 360 million euros in new signings in the summer.
Under Roberto De Zerbi, things should have actually gone significantly upwards. With just two points, Tottenham are now again in 17th place.
Everton, however, remain unbeaten and are in seventh place with six points.
For Tottenham, the next difficult task continues already on Tuesday. In the EFL Cup, the "Spurs" will visit Liverpool.
