The Champion Stays Perfect: Arsenal Defeats Aston Villa
The "Villans" are still showing signs of their transition in their clash with the reigning champions. A Saka goal seals the win.
Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory away at Aston Villa in the second round of the English Premier League.
Saka scored the decisive goal after an hour, meaning the reigning champions stand at six points with a 4-0 goal difference after two rounds.
The match started off quite entertaining with chances for both sides. However, the lively opening phase didn't last long. Villa stood compact, and the visitors had control. Clear-cut chances were lacking, though.
Arsenal Increases the Pressure
That changed after the break. First, Saka was awarded a penalty, but after a VAR check, it was corrected to a free-kick. Odegaard put it just over the bar.
In the next situation, however, it happened: Calafiori's strong cross found Saka, who had an easy finish from close range (59').
Villa improved in the following minutes, but Arsenal continued to have the better chances. Havertz missed an opportunity to seal the win against new number one Suzuki. Thus, it remained a 1-0 victory for the Londoners.
