On Rose's Debut: Bournemouth Suffer Late Defeat at Manchester City
The "Citizens" trailed Bournemouth for a long time but, with a late surge, prevented a dream start for Marco Rose as Bournemouth's coach.
Manchester City managed to avoid a poor start against AFC Bournemouth.
On the opening day of the Premier League, the "Citizens" trailed until the 84th minute, but in the final phase, new coach Enzo Maresca's team secured a conciliatory end.
After Marcus Tavernier's opening goal (28'), the hosts only truly awoke in the second half but struggled for a long time against the "Cherries".
In the closing minutes, however, Man City still denied former Salzburg coach Marco Rose a dream debut on the Bournemouth touchline: First, Marc Guehi was on hand after a corner from Rayan Cherki (85'), and then in stoppage time, Josko Gvardiol secured the late winning goal (90.+2).
Brighton Rout Aston Villa
Brighton & Hove Albion, meanwhile, have had an ideal start to the season.
The "Seagulls" thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 on the first matchday. The match was already decided after the first half.
Brighton took the lead in the eighth minute through an own goal by Victor Lindelöf. Maxim De Cuyper (18') and Jack Hinshelwood with a brace (30', 31') established a commanding lead after just about half an hour.
Shortly before the half-time whistle, Joao Gomes was also sent off for the "Villans" after a VAR review (40').
Michael Svoboda, however, did not make his Premier League debut. The summer signing watched the clear victory from the bench.
