After Glasner's Rocky Start at Nottingham: "This is the Reality..."
After two defeats at the start of his tenure, new coach Glasner promises improvement - a striker is imminent, and further transfers could also follow.
Oliver Glasner has had a rocky start to his tenure at Nottingham Forest.
Following the 0-1 opening defeat last weekend against Leeds United, they now also suffered a defeat against the same opponent in the EFL Cup: They had to concede a 0-2 loss to the "Whites" a few days later.
"It was a tough evening, a bitter defeat. We have to accept that, this is the reality we are currently in," the 51-year-old appeared visibly dejected in the post-match interview.
Team has "great character"
The performance "was not enough to win the game. We cannot hope that other teams play worse. It is our responsibility to play better and be fitter."
While the "Tricky Trees" made too many "wrong decisions" and thus "allowed Leeds chances and goals," some players in Glasner's team have also only recently returned from long injury breaks.
It will take time, but he also knows "that this squad has great characters. I know we will work hard, stick together, and then improve."
Glasner's Teams Often Struggle at the Start of His Tenure
A look at the past shows that the Upper Austrian's teams often need time to internalize the "Glasner-ball."
When the Salzburg native followed the dismissed Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace, the "Eagles" did win their first game, but then only managed to secure two points from the next five matches.
However, the Londoners then finished the season tremendously: From the last nine games, the team secured 19 out of a possible 21 points and, among other things, won at Liverpool (3rd) and celebrated victories over Manchester United (6th) and Aston Villa (4th).
Only Directly Successful in Wolfsburg and Linz
The start of the 2014/15 season at SV Ried also failed: After victories in the ÖFB Cup (Parndorf) and in the first round of the Bundesliga against Wiener Neustadt, the Innviertel team only celebrated a victory again on the tenth matchday - also against the Lower Austrians.
Only at VfL Wolfsburg and LASK did the start of the season go better. The Linz team secured nine wins and one draw with two defeats from the first twelve games. With the "Wolves," Glasner didn't even suffer his first defeat until the end of October (1-6 in the DFB-Pokal against RB Leipzig).
Delap Close to Transfer
Nottingham's current weakness is their offense. With Liam Delap, an attacker is now close to a transfer to the Midlands. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, an agreement for the signing of the 23-year-old Chelsea striker with the "Blues" has already been reached.
Glasner reportedly tipped the scales for a move to the "Tricky Trees." Only the medical check is still pending.
Forest Bids for Bergvall - Full-back Expected to Arrive
While Forest is also reportedly looking for a full-back, a reinforcement for central midfield could also be on its way. As the BBC reports, Tottenham rejected an initial offer for Lucas Bergvall amounting to 44.3 million euros - now a 52.5 million euro package is said to be prepared.
The 20-year-old Swede is intended to replace Anderson in the center, who moved to Manchester City in July for a transfer fee of 135 million euros. However, Spurs coach Roberto De Zerbi wants to keep the midfield strategist.
