At Gala Performance: Lamine Yamal Breaks Mbappe Record
FC Barcelona's wonderkid is already in absolute top form early in the season and sets a new record.
Exceptional talent Lamine Yamal continues to break record after record!
The 19-year-old FC Barcelona attacker once again showcased his class in the Champions League opener against Feyenoord Rotterdam. The Catalans ultimately secured a deserved 5-1 victory, with the Spaniard scoring one goal and masterfully setting up two others.
With these three goal contributions, Yamal breaks a record held by Kylian Mbappe. The Barca youngster is now the teenager with the most goal contributions in the UEFA Champions League. Yamal has 23, while Mbappe held the record with 20 goal contributions.
Youngest Barca Captain
On that Wednesday evening at Camp Nou, the 19-year-old also broke another club record. Following Raphinha's substitution, Yamal became the youngest player to wear FC Barcelona's captain's armband.
Bojan Krkic previously held the record at the age of 20.
The Attack Is Firing on All Cylinders
Overall, the right-winger has had an outstanding start to the season; in the league, the World and European champion scored four goals in his first four games.
However, the Spaniard is not even the most prolific Catalan in this still young season. Hansi Flick's team won all five competitive matches, scoring 22 goals in the process. Alongside Yamal, new captain Raphinha (8 goals, 1 assist) and Fermin Lopez (4 goals, 2 assists) have also been outstanding so far.
