This is said to be the reason for the BVB shower ban
Carney Chukwuemeka, Marcel Sabitzer and co. boarded the team bus unwashed after their Champions League victory in Baku. This is the reason:
The reason for Borussia Dortmund players' abstention from showering after a Champions League away game in Azerbaijan is said to have been health concerns.
Bild claims to have found out that BVB officials were concerned about a possible Legionella infection. Visually, the showers in the Olympic Stadium in Baku, opened in 2015, where Sabah FK plays its Champions League home games, appear to be in perfect condition.
Legionella can accumulate in water pipes
Legionellosis, also known as Legionnaires' disease, is defined by the Austrian Ministry of Health on its homepage as "a severe form of pneumonia".
According to this, "the bacterium Legionella pneumophila is a globally widespread environmental germ, which in small numbers is a natural component of surface waters and groundwater. However, in artificial water-bearing systems, conditions can prevail that favour the multiplication of Legionella pneumophila to a germ count dangerous for humans."
At BVB, there was therefore the fear that Legionella could have accumulated in the water pipes of the stadium showers. These could have been inhaled during showering.
