Carney Chukwuemeka was allowed to start for the first time this season in the Champions League match against Sabah FK (to the match report >>>).

After his performance, the midfielder received a lot of praise from his superiors. "He did really well," coach Niko Kovac expressed his satisfaction.

In the three-man midfield with Felix Nmecha and Joey Veerman, according to Kovac, there were "types of players who can do a lot with the ball and were able to solve their game situations well".

Sporting director Ole Book also joined in the praise on "Sky" microphone: "He was able to set some good attacking accents. He was clearly involved in a few chances. An assist would also have been possible if his teammates had converted a chance," said Book.

Chukwuemeka also strong defensively

However, Chukwuemeka was not only convincing offensively. "I also thought he did well defensively. He really put in the effort there and sought out challenges," praised Kovac.

Five ball recoveries and a tackle success rate of 67 percent underscore the Austrian's strong defensive performance.
