LASK's Youth League season continues to be plagued by bad luck.

After a 2-4 defeat against Liverpool last week, where the U19 of the double winners lost despite a 2-0 lead and being the clearly better team for long stretches, the young Linz players suffer an unlucky 1-2 loss against Sporting Lisbon on matchday three.

Sporting scores from the spot, LASK doesn't

After a largely balanced first half with few goal-mouth incidents, things got lively immediately after the break.

LASK captain Jonas Ilk unluckily fouls Salvador Blopa just inside the box. The fouled player steps up himself and converts to make it 1-0 for the hosts (48th minute).

LASK showed little shock and subsequently became dangerous several times from set pieces. First, Marius Teufel failed to score from a free-kick, hitting the post (58th minute), then ten minutes later, Manoel Verhaeghe was denied by goalkeeper Luka Petric in a similar situation (68th minute).

However, Fabian Jindra had the best chance to equalize. The lightning-fast Paul Krapf won a penalty after a long throw-in, Jindra stepped up, but Petric saved it (70th minute).

Wild Stoppage Time

Thereupon, the Linz resistance seemed broken; Sporting created several chances for a bigger win and ultimately capitalized on one through Rafael Camacho (90th+2 minute). The Lisbon side was, at this point, playing with ten men after a yellow-red card for Sandro Gamboa.

Shortly after, Florentin Shatri was wildly tackled by Petric, earning another penalty for LASK. Ilk converted coolly this time (90th+5 minute).

LASK U19 thus still has only one point and is already with their back against the wall. In the Youth League group stage – unlike the senior competition – there are only six matchdays.
