Celtic star out due to 2023 red card against LASK
The Scots were apparently unaware of an outstanding suspension, so the Englishman will miss both games against LASK.
Celtic Glasgow awaits LASK in the UEFA Champions League playoff. On Wednesday, the Linz-based side will visit Scotland (from 9:00 PM in the LIVE ticker >>>).
Now, Celtic surprisingly discovered that one player is ineligible to play. Specifically, it concerns Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Englishman still has to serve a suspension. In December 2023, while playing for Besiktas, he received a red card in the UEFA Conference League during a 2-0 victory over Lugano.
Suspension still active
Because the Turkish club did not play any further European matches with the Englishman afterwards, the three-game suspension remains in effect. In February, the former Arsenal player then joined Celtic.
The UEFA "waited about 27 years" for Oxlade-Chamberlain to play in Europe again, joked coach Martin O'Neill.
Belgian Arne Engels (22) is out for a different reason; the key player transferred to West Ham United shortly before the LASK match.
