Atletico Madrid signed Morten Hjulmand (27) from Sporting Lisbon this summer for a reported 40 million euros. Over the past three seasons, the Dane drew significant attention in the Portuguese club's jersey.

He began his professional career in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, wearing the Admira Wacker jersey between 2018 and 2021. At that time, he moved from FC Copenhagen to Südstadt.

"Marca" now wanted to know from him why he made this "strange move."

Playing Time as a Factor

"It was a quite unusual decision because I was at a big club like Copenhagen and could have continued playing there. But as a young player, I wanted to play the full 90 minutes in every game. So I moved to a somewhat smaller club that relied on many young players. That's how I ended up in Austria, where I played 80 games. By playing alongside experienced professionals and learning from them, I developed myself into a professional footballer," said the Dane.

In retrospect, he describes his time in Südstadt as an important step in his career. In 2021, Admira sold him to Serie B (Lecce). He later also played for the Italians in Serie A.
