Six Goals! Paris beats Barca in CL summit clash
In the top match of the UEFA Champions League, the defending champion defeats the Catalans.
Victory in the top match for the defending champions!
Paris Saint-Germain prevails against FC Barcelona with a 4:2 scoreline in the third round of the UEFA Champions League.
In a thrilling and wide-open exchange with plenty of shots on goal, the French ultimately demonstrate far greater stamina.
Olmo Forced Off Injured
The match at Parc des Princes starts intensely, with the first major talking point not a goal, but a personnel setback for the Spanish visitors.
After 27 minutes, Dani Olmo writhes in pain on the pitch and has to be replaced due to injury by Fermin Lopez. Just a few minutes earlier, Dembele had to be substituted due to injury for the Parisians, with ex-Barca player Torres replacing him.
Flick's side appears briefly disorganized by this change, which Paris promptly exploits. Following build-up play from Joao Neves, Desire Doue breaks through the defensive lines and scores late in the first half to give the home team a 1:0 lead.
Anyone who thought the game would now fizzle out was proven wrong after the break. FC Barcelona emerged from the dressing room fiercely determined and promptly rewarded themselves with the 1:1 equalizer from Xavi Espart.
But PSG remained unfazed. In a spirited phase, Lucas Hernandez headed in a superb assist from Desire Doue to restore the lead (2:1). However, the joy was short-lived, as Barca's wonderkid Lamine Yamal found an immediate answer, smashing the ball into the near corner for 2:2.
Ruiz Seals the Deal
The Spaniards thought they were back in the game, but then Paris hit the turbo. Just moments after the equalizer, Vitinha struck back mercilessly, putting the hosts back on the winning track with a 3:2 lead. Barcelona, who had enjoyed a superiority in play, threw everything forward in the final stages.
Instead of an equalizer, however, the visitors suffered the final knockout blow: Achraf Hakimi set up Fabian Ruiz, who calmly slotted home for the 4:2 final score. The only downside for the hosts: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, another star, had to be substituted due to injury.
Napoli Beats Bodø
Napoli defeats Bodø/Glimt 4:3. Politano scored the opening goal in the first minute, followed by McTominay in the 41st minute.
Hauge (27.) and Helmerson (62.) brought the Norwegians level, but the Italians sealed the win through McTominay (75.) and an own goal by Bjortuft (89.).
Fet's 3:4 goal in the fourth minute of injury time came too late.
