Liverpool FC also experienced a high-scoring match on the third matchday of the UEFA Champions League.

A week after their 6-3 victory against LASK, Liverpool won 4-3 at home against FC Villarreal.

The match started as poorly as imaginable for the "Reds". Already in the fourth minute, Virgil van Dijk's back-pass went awry. Geroges Mikautadze intercepted and slotted home to give the Spaniards the lead.

Even after that, the "Yellow Submarine" didn't let up. Sergi Cardona extended the lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute.

Liverpool Fights Back

However, Liverpool refused to be intimidated by the two-goal deficit. Just a short time later, Alexis Mac Allister headed in from a corner to pull one back (36.).

After another corner, Andoni Iraola's team fought their way completely back into the game still in the first half. Ronald Araujo managed to head in Rio Ngumoha's cross (45+2.).

Carrying the momentum of their comeback, Liverpool took complete control of the match in the second half. Mac Allister then scored in the 65th minute after a superb assist from Ngumoha to give them the lead for the first time.

A few minutes later, substitute Florian Wirtz sealed the deal. The German had too much space and scored precisely to make it 4-2 (68.). Although Tani Olawuseyi managed to pull one back again in the 87th minute, it came too late.

Man City Show No Weakness

Manchester City secured a victory. At home, the "Skyblues" defeated AEK Athens 5-1.

New signing Elliot Anderson opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute after a rebound off the crossbar. Phil Foden then also increased the lead to 2-0 in the first half (36.).

The second half initially started with a shock for City. Stavros Pilios scored a beautifully worked goal to pull one back, but the Athenians weren't allowed to hope for long.

Just a few minutes later, Rayan Cherki scored with a very neat back-heel to make it 3-1 (57.). After that, Phil Foden completed his hat-trick with two more goals (65th; 76th) and secured a clear victory.
