Haaland puts Manchester City on the winning track against Leipzig
The Saxons narrowly miss out on points against the top club from England.
On the fourth matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage, RB Leipzig had to concede a 2-3 defeat to Manchester City in front of their home crowd.
Christoph Baumgartner started for Leipzig and was substituted after 57 minutes. Nicolas Seiwald entered the field after 74 minutes.
The visitors had the first shot of the game. Cherki tried from the half-right, but missed wide of the goal. Shortly after, it became really tight when Nusa's shot from around 18 meters slipped through Donnarumma's fingers and landed on the roof of the net.
Baumgartner, who played for Leipzig until the 57th minute, tried a determined shot from distance in the 30th minute but narrowly missed scoring. The first goal of the match for Man City came from an own goal. Lukeba tried to clear a sharp cross but slipped and scored into his own net.
Goal-rich Second Half
In the 47th minute, it was Baumgartner again, who almost scored a dream goal. From distance, he curled the ball towards the top right corner. However, Donnarumma pulled off a brilliant save and prevented the equalizer for the time being.
Two minutes later, the Italian keeper didn't look good. Baku was actually in a position where one would normally play a square pass across the face of goal. However, since Donnarumma came out a few steps, the near post was open, into which Baku slotted the ball.
City took the lead again in the 58th minute. Enzo Fernandez converted a perfectly weighted cross from Ndiaye with a header to make it 2-1. Leipzig had the perfect answer ready and equalized again. Nkunku, who came on for Baumgartner, chipped the ball to Nusa, who coolly finished (61.).
Erling Haaland also got his goal. The Norwegian was perfectly set up by Anderson and bundled the ball over the line while sliding to make it 3-2 (78.).
Triple Woodwork
Leipzig narrowly failed to equalize again. Raum tried a direct free-kick from the edge of the penalty area with a lot of swerve. The Manchester City goalie would have already been beaten, but the crossbar denied the goal.
On the other side, Cherki hammered the ball against the crossbar inside the penalty area (84.). Shortly after, Haaland made the right post rattle (86.).
Thus ends the spectacular match in Leipzig. Manchester City temporarily moved into the top eight of the group stage, while Leipzig moved away from the top 24.
