Will Nagelsmann (again) coach an ÖFB duo?
RB Leipzig recently gained confidence. Nevertheless, there are intriguing rumors surrounding the coaching position.
Three consecutive wins, fourth place in the Bundesliga.
German top club RB Leipzig has temporarily returned to winning ways.
However, ahead of the Champions League blockbuster clash with Manchester City (Wednesday from 9:00 PM in the LIVE ticker >>>), the name of an old acquaintance is making the rounds among the Saxons.
Despite recent successes, will coach Martin Demichelis soon have to step down?
Demichelis on probation
According to "Sport Bild", the club of the two ÖFB national team players Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald is reportedly considering a possible return for Julian Nagelsmann.
Current head coach Martin Demichelis is said to be anything but undisputed within the club. Although the Argentinian (45) has eight wins after thirteen games in charge, some heavy defeats, such as against Bayern Munich (1:6) or Como (1:4), are said to have raised internal club doubts about the former star defender.
Should "results fail to materialize by the winter break", Demichelis' position would be in jeopardy, according to "Sport Bild". "Demichelis' shadow is Nagelsmann."
Reunion?
Nagelsmann (39), who successfully coached the "Red Bulls" from 2019 to 2021, is reportedly not averse to a renewed engagement with the RB club.
In his first tenure with the Saxons, the German became vice-champion and reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. In 95 games as Leipzig head coach, he achieved an average of 1.94 points per game.
Nagelsmann last coached the DFB team as national coach. In July, his ill-fated tenure came to a premature end following the World Cup exit against Paraguay.
Of the two current ÖFB players in Leipzig's squad, only Christoph Baumgartner has played under Nagelsmann twice so far.
