FC Bayern secured a 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League despite a long injury list (to the match report>>>).

While several players were out in attack, Manuel Neuer returned to goal for the German record champions. The 40-year-old recently had to pause several times and was deputized by his chosen successor Jonas Urbig.

The past weeks have been anything but easy for Neuer, the goalkeeper revealed in an interview with "Prime Video" after the game.

"No easy situation for me"

"I had pain every day when walking. And when I got up in the morning, this morning too, I also had pain when walking again," Neuer said.

"It really wasn't an easy situation for me in the past few days and weeks," added the Bayern captain, who may be playing his last professional season.

The fact that he even played in goal against Atletico was only clear to Neuer shortly before kick-off. Only during the warm-up could he definitively determine whether his fitness level allowed him to return to the starting XI.

"Now I'm really mega happy that I could be on the pitch today, that we could keep a clean sheet and won the game 2-0," Neuer said.
