Was ex-Sturm coach considered in Wolfsberg?
WAC has a new head coach in Manfred Schmid. However, there was reportedly another candidate for the position.
Wolfsberger AC has decided on a coaching change. Former coach Manfred Schmid is back in Lavanttal, replacing Thomas Silberberger. More on this >>>
However, according to "Krone", there was reportedly another candidate for Silberberger's successor. This candidate, ex-Sturm coach Jürgen Säumel, reportedly turned down WAC.
Already at WAC
The 42-year-old won the championship with Sturm Graz in 2024/25 and was dismissed at the end of the calendar year 2025. He has been without a job since then.
Säumel had previously coached WAC's amateur team between 2022 and 2023. He left Wolfsberg in March 2023, with differing ideas reportedly being the reason.
