Ried signs former Swedish international striker
The ADMIRAL Bundesliga club strengthens its squad with a new centre-forward. The Swede brings a wealth of experience.
New signing for SV Ried!
A few days after the transfer window closed, the Innviertel club presents a new striker in Isaac Kiese Thelin.
The 33-cap Swedish international has been without a club since summer, therefore joining the ADMIRAL Bundesliga club on a free transfer and signing until 2028.
"Completely Convinced"
"We only wanted to sign a striker if we were completely convinced by the player. With Isaac, we have now succeeded in doing so. Over weeks, it became clear through many discussions that we can start an exciting journey together here in Ried," explains SVR Sporting Director Lukas Brandl.
Thelin is a 1.90-meter tall attacker who, at 34 years old, brings a wealth of experience to Austria. In his long career, he played for clubs including Malmö (Sweden), Anderlecht (Belgium), Bordeaux (France), Leverkusen (Germany), and Kasimpasa (Turkey).
"Isaac's resume speaks for itself; he enriches us with the desired experience and will raise the standards in the dressing room," says the sporting director.
Experience in the Champions League too
Most recently, the veteran was under contract with Urawa Reds in Japan until summer. He had his most successful period in Malmö, where he scored 86 goals in 196 games and became top scorer in 2022/23.
Thelin also boasts 30 appearances in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
"I want to present myself as well as possible here in Ried and help the team on the pitch as much as I can. When I heard about Ried's interest, I watched some games. It's an interesting league. I've already played against Salzburg with Malmö. There have been many talented players who have moved from this league to big clubs in Europe," says the new signing.
His international matches against Austria were not very successful; in 2015, he lost 1:4 at home against the Koller-team in the European Championship qualifier.
In 2018, there was a 0:2 test match defeat in Austria against Franco Foda's team.
