GAK key player to leave? Interim Sporting Director reacts
After the Red Jackets' first win of the season, a transfer rumor concerning a key player started circulating. Something is definitely still expected to happen regarding new signings.
After their opening defeat, GAK secured an important success with a 2-1 victory against promoted side SC Austria Lustenau.
However, the relief over the first win of the season was overshadowed by transfer rumors surrounding Donovan Pines, who scored the opening goal to make it 1-0.
After the match, interim sporting director Andreas Lienhart commented on the rumors concerning the 28-year-old American: "It would be really interesting to know where this information comes from. Neither an offer nor anything else has come in."
Departure only for an "absolutely outrageous offer"
The Red Jackets' defensive leader would leave a significant void, both personally and athletically. That's why the 40-year-old made it clear to the "Krone": "We are not thinking about it at all. Unless an absolutely outrageous offer really comes in." The center-back's contract on the Mur runs until 2027.
Rather, GAK is focusing on strengthening its defense. The player profile is severely restricted due to the "Österreichertopf" (Austrian player quota), as Lienhart notes: "Currently, an Austrian defender is the priority. However, we are taking our time and won't rush anything."
