LASK CEO Gruber: "MLS can't afford Sascha"

LASK achieved a miracle this week and, despite a 0-3 defeat in the first leg of the playoff against Celtic Glasgow, still qualified for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

While everyone in Linz celebrated exuberantly last Tuesday, LASK captain Sascha Horvath somewhat dampened the mood. The 30-year-old, who is being linked with MLS club San Jose Earthquakes, avoided a clear commitment to LASK.

Gruber rules out transfer

While some LASK fans might already be a little worried about the future of their captain, LASK CEO Siegmund Gruber is trying to take the wind out of the situation's sails.

"I believe he is really happy here in Linz," Gruber explained on Saturday on "Sky". He definitively rules out a sale this summer: "I'm absolutely certain of that."

Gruber does not believe that an offer will land on his table that would tempt LASK. "I believe MLS can't afford Sascha," Gruber said with a wink.

The club's CEO also reiterated that LASK is in a good financial situation and is not dependent on quick money: "We are the ones who can say yes or no. And we do not intend for anything to happen before the end of the transfer window."

At least that applies to the departure side.
