Ex-captain talks about tough time in Salzburg
The Dane failed to win a single title in three years, but he still learned a lot.
In July 2023, Mads Bidstrup moved from Brentford in the Premier League to FC Red Bull Salzburg.
At that time, the Salzburg club were ten-time consecutive champions, so the Dane likely expected a certain title guarantee.
Three years later, the 25-year-old left the club in the summer for Lyon without a single title.
"When I moved to Salzburg, it was difficult to find a club in Europe that offered a greater guarantee of titles – and the fact that we won nothing in those three years was incredibly unsatisfying," the Danish international is quoted by "Tipsbladet".
Bidstrup Remains Without a Title
For the last eighteen months, he led the club onto the pitch as captain. "My time in Salzburg was very educational for me – both on and off the pitch. I was captain for a year and a half and had to learn to take responsibility in a completely different way. I developed enormously as a person," the Dane recounts.
He parted ways with Salzburg on good terms. "That was important for me," said the midfielder. However, he would have liked to take a title with him; he has never won a title in his professional career.
