National Team Striker: Why I Failed at WAC

He was a transfer that certainly raised hopes at WAC. In early September 2025, the Carinthians presented Kenyan national team striker Ryan Ogam (21/then 20 years old).

However, hopes faded relatively quickly. Under Didi Kühbauer, he played once for 14 minutes in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga against GAK in early October, followed by a further 46 minutes under Peter Pacult in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup away match against SKU Amstetten.

Under successors Atalan and Silberberger, the Kenyan was then completely sidelined.

National Team Striker in the Regional League

In the Regionalliga Mitte, he scored four goals in nine games for the amateur team. Ogam has an explanation for why the breakthrough in Lavanttal failed to materialize.

His transfer in summer 2025 happened relatively late, mainly due to the African Nations Championship. He played for Kenya there, but only players from the domestic league are eligible to participate in this tournament. Accordingly, the WAC deal was concluded late.

Loan to Belgium

"It wasn't easy... I missed pre-season due to the Nations Championship. That's why I didn't play," Ogam is quoted by "pulsesport".

However, the Kenyan describes his Regionalliga games for the amateur team as an important step for his development.

Ogam is now on loan at RFC Lüttich in the 2nd Belgian league. He has one assist in six games there. "I'm trying to enjoy it and want to score goals," says the 21-year-old.
