Austria Wien vies for defender with multi-million market value
The deal is expected to be finalized this week. His contract in Sweden was set to expire at the end of the year.
In search of a new center-back, FK Austria Wien has reportedly set its sights on Ibrahim Buhari from IF Elfsborg. This comes from a report by the Swedish newspaper "Expressen".
According to the report, negotiations are currently underway between the two parties. As the media further reports, the clubs hope to finalize the deal this week.
The departure of the defensive stalwart is said to be imminent. Nothing is known about the specific transfer fee details.
Only five appearances this season
The 24-year-old Nigerian moved from his home country to IF Elfsborg in September 2022. Since then, he has made 77 competitive appearances for the club from Borås.
With a market value of 1.4 million euros, he is one of the club's most valuable players. Recently, however, he has lost his regular spot in central defense, making only five appearances this season. To what extent this is related to his approaching contract expiry (December 2026) is unclear.
