Derby Win! Lustenau Deepens Altach's Crisis
While the promoted side secures their second victory of the season with this prestigious success, Altach suffers their sixth defeat in the seventh game.
The promoted side wins the Ländle derby!
Austria Lustenau beat SCR Altach 2-0 in front of their home crowd in the 7th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. At the same time, Lustenau thereby deepens Altach's crisis, as they have now lost six of their first seven league games.
The first Vorarlberg derby in the Bundesliga in 854 days was fiercely contested from the start, with Lustenau defender Anilson receiving the first yellow card after just six minutes. Initially, Altach was more active. However, Greil was denied by a brilliant save from Lustenau keeper Schierl (19th minute), and Massombo suffered the same fate shortly after (26th).
After about half an hour, Lustenau found their rhythm and took control of the game. Diarra himself couldn't beat SCRA keeper Stojanovic (35th), but shone as an assist provider shortly after: his cross landed precisely on the head of Verinac, who gave Lustenau the lead with a sharp header (36th).
Lustenau Adds Another Before the Break
Towards the end of the first half, Altach celebrated what they thought was the equalizer, but the offside rule thwarted the Rheindörfler's plans. Near-scorer Diawara was not offside himself, but he had received the ball from Greil, who started from an offside position, so the goal did not count (44th).
Shortly after, things got even worse for bottom-of-the-table Altach. Verinac controlled the ball in the visitors' penalty area and cleverly laid it off to Weixelbraun, who slotted it in for Lustenau's 2-0 lead (45.+1).
Altach Cannot Respond
Lustenau remained sharper in the second half as well. However, Weixelbraun (46th) and Diarra (58th) failed to seal the deal and decide the derby in Lustenau's favor.
Despite attacking substitutions, Altach created no chances. Until the 68th minute, when Bähre went deep and fired the ball into the net. But the supposed consolation goal did not count due to another offside position.
Altach's first legitimate shot in the second half only came in the 74th minute, with Diawara pushing it just wide of the goal. Lustenau saw out the 2-0 lead and deservedly won the Ländle derby.
SCR Altach remains at the bottom of the table with three points, while Lustenau climbs to sixth place with eight points until the evening match.
