Dominant Salzburg gives Austria no chance

To conclude the 5th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, FC Red Bull Salzburg celebrates a clear 4:1 home victory against Wiener Austria.

Austria actually started the game well, Julian Hettwer got a direct shot with his thigh in the penalty area, and the ball rattled off the left post. A few minutes later, the Bulls equalized in terms of hitting the woodwork, as Nikolas Veratschnig hit the crossbar with a powerful long-range shot.

In the 13th minute, Salzburg took a lucky lead. Yorbe Vertessen played a cross towards Haris Tabakovic, and Kang-Hee Lee tried to clear it but ended up putting the ball into his own net.

Salzburg clearly superior

This goal had an immediate impact; Austria was now disorganized and without a plan. After a good chipped pass from Veratschnig, Tabakovic added another with a header (19').

The Viennese became increasingly hesitant and passive. After half an hour, the Bulls had plenty of space. Abubakr Barry laid it off to the better-positioned Bartosz Mazurek, who struck the ball perfectly to score his first goal in a Salzburg kit (31').

A short while later, Vasilije Markovic almost produced another Austria own goal, but this time, during a clearing attempt, the ball went just wide of the right post.

Substitutes create danger

At halftime, the game was almost decided, but Austria did not want to give up yet and made an excellent start to the second half. After a corner, the Bulls couldn't clear the ball; Florian Wustinger broke through and played it to Manfred Fischer, who scored for Austria (47') – a good co-production from the two substitutes.

Salzburg also made a change at halftime; Aboubacar Camara came on and almost scored immediately as well, but Samuel Sahin-Radlinger saved. A few minutes later, however, the ball was in Austria's net again. This time the assist came from Camara, and Vertessen scored from close range with a header (55').

The Viennese then missed the chance to score another consolation goal, as Markovic failed against the strong Christian Zawieschitzky after an error in the build-up play by Kevin Boma.

Chances in closing stages remain unused

However, the game was already decided at this point. Camara still had three opportunities, but his aim wasn't accurate enough, or Sahin-Radlinger was on his guard. As Fischer also found his match in Zawieschitzky, the score remained 4:1 for Red Bull Salzburg.

In the standings, Salzburg thus jumps to third place and remains undefeated, two points behind league leaders Rapid Wien. Austria, with only three points, is now even at the bottom of the table.
