Seidl stay or transfer? Clear statement from Markus Katzer

The ADMIRAL Bundesliga transfer window closes in a few days.

At Rapid, some personnel questions remain open after missing out on the Conference League.

The biggest question mark likely surrounds captain Matthias Seidl, who was initially benched for the top match against Sturm Graz.

Contract extension for Seidl?

Now, sporting director Markus Katzer comments on the current situation to "Sky": "We value Matthi extremely highly. I am also in excellent communication with his agent, with whom I spoke on the phone today, yesterday, and the day before yesterday, regarding other matters, but also concerning Matthi Seidl."

Katzer explicitly rules out a sale of the 25-year-old. Instead, the Hütteldorfer aim to tie their captain to the club long-term:

"For us, it's very clear: He is a very important part of the team. He has shown that in recent weeks, months, and years. Therefore, we have no interest in selling him now. On the contrary: We would like to extend his contract. It was always communicated very clearly and transparently with his agent that talks would commence after the transfer window."

What's next for Wurmbrand?

Niki Wurmbrand's future, despite receiving limited playing time recently, is also still part of Rapid's plans.

Katzer is convinced by the qualities and development of the young offensive player: "I believe Niki is a very, very good player, a very talented player, who has had a difficult past six months.

But that doesn't mean he won't return to the performance level he played at before, where he brought a lot of joy, where he scored many truly good goals, important ones for us as a group. We still believe in Niki and in his development, which will be positive in the future."
