Austria Lustenau secures a point in Bundesliga comeback against Ried
While the Upper Austrians are ultimately the more dangerous team, they fail to take the lead. Lustenau earns their first Bundesliga point in two years.
SC Austria Lustenau and SV Ried draw 1-1 on the first matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
Promoted side Austria Lustenau starts proactively and gets the first chance of the match through a Delaye free-kick (4'). After barely a quarter of an hour, Ried temporarily takes control, but Eghosa's header is still cleared off the line (15').

Finally, Lustenau takes the lead with an attack down the left flank. Soares is sent deep by Diarra and delivers the cross to the far post, where Weixelbraun is ready and volleys it in (26').
Despite being behind, Ried remains the more dangerous team. Nasrawe scores the deserved equalizer in the 36th minute, taking a long-range shot after a one-two with Bajic and surprising Lustenau keeper Schierl at the far corner. At halftime, it's 1-1 in an entertaining match.
Ried Thwarted by VAR
Ried believed they had taken the lead after 56 minutes, as Rhodes fired the ball into the net following an Eghosa pass. However, an almost endless VAR check of nearly five minutes showed that assist-provider Eghosa was marginally offside, so the goal did not count.
On the other side, substitute Verinac and Gmeiner squander a double chance (69'), after which Lustenau eased off a bit.
Ried pressed late for the lead, but substitutes Lund Jensen (89') and Sissoko (90'+2) could not convert their chances. Thus, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
