Tough draw! ÖFB women drawn into Nations League 'group of death'
Austria will face several high-calibre opponents in the top tier of the Nations League in 2027.
A tough draw for the ÖFB women!
On Tuesday afternoon, the draw for the UEFA Women's Nations League 2027 took place in Nyon, Switzerland.
The Austrians, who were placed in Pot 3, were drawn into Group A2 with reigning European champions England. Their other two group opponents are France and Portugal.
Nations League starts in February
Between February and June 2027, the ÖFB women will compete in a total of six matches against their group opponents. While Austria is a clear underdog against England and France, an even match is expected against Portugal.
The respective group winner qualifies for the Nations League Finals and the 2028 Olympic Games. The last-placed team in the group is relegated to League B, while the third-placed team must play a relegation playoff against a second-placed team from League B.
The exact fixture list is not yet known and will be provided by UEFA soon.
World Cup Playoff awaits
Before the ÖFB team can look forward to the highlight matches in the Nations League, the important World Cup playoff against Switzerland is still on the agenda in a month's time.
Austria's women can qualify for a World Cup for the first time. The first leg will take place on December 1st, before the return leg four days later.
